The community is invited to meet the library district candidates on the May ballot during a question-and-answer session on May 6 from 10–11 a.m. at the Grants Pass branch of Josephine Community Libraries, 200 NW C Street in Grants Pass.
Candidates for the library district under Measure 17-79 include Beecher Ellison, John Harelson, Jennifer Roberts, Laurel Samson, and Judy Williams. Candidate statements are available in the Josephine County Clerk’s Voters’ Pamphlet. No seats for the district board are contested.
“The library district candidate forum is a good opportunity for community members to ask questions about how the district will operate,” said Jennifer Roberts, candidate for Library District Board Member, Position 3. “While we cannot make decisions, we can help clarify the mechanics of how the tax funds will be managed.”
The candidate forum is sponsored by Keep Our Libraries Open (KOLO) political action committee, a group of citizens dedicated to passing a library district in Josephine County. The proposed Josephine Community Library District is a special, noncontiguous district that will serve the areas surrounding the four branches of the library in Grants Pass, Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek. Those outside the district borders can join the library district either by filling out paperwork or by purchasing a library card.
